MiMédi ERDF project

FEMTO Engineering is a partner in a project dedicated to the creation of an automated platform for the production of innovative medicines.

This research project, with a total amount of 15,044,279.35 € — financed by the ERDF for an amount of 11,283,209.47 €, brings together 10 public and industrial partners. It took place from 2017 to 2022, for five years and a month.

The objective of this project was to build a demonstrator meeting the need for modularity in a "universal" bioreactor for the creation of innovative medicines.

The production costs of these medicines used in the treatment of cancers, inflammatory diseases and autoimmune diseases are currently too high to access the market. They are biological medicines, as opposed to chemical ones. This is referred to as cell drugs, or cell therapy, or even gene therapy. Currently, their production is not automated and is constrained by the need for a cleanroom environment for their production.

The project’s perspectives:

  • Reduce production times by reducing control analysis times
  • Improve on manual steps by automating them
  • To develop current regulations that are not adapted to living medicines (obligation to irradiate medicines at the end of production).

FEMTO Engineering is committed to this project in the form of:

  • supervision and technical management of the entire project,
  • laser nano-machining, micro-fabrication, and microfluidics engineering and analysis on biochips,
  • engineering in process automation.
