Texturing surfaces

Surface texturing by ultra-short pulse lasers is an innovative technology that allows the application of preset or random textures and patterns with very high finesse and resolution to different types of surfaces.

The patterns created by the interaction of laser pulses with the surface modify their structural, functional and visual properties. Therefore, naturally hydrophilic surfaces can become hydrophobic, or reflective surfaces can become opaque simply thanks to laser treatment.

The process can be used on different types of materials with simple and complex shapes.

Description

  • Surface texturing for functionalization
  • Marking (surface or solid: transparent material), ablation (thin layers)
  • At the micron, submicron, and nanometric scales
  • Machining of extremely small patterns up to 10 μm or less
  • Process without contact nor force

Materials

  • Metals: steel, stainless steel, cast iron, copper, gold, titanium, platinum, bronze, aluminum...
  • Ceramics: silicon, quartz, glass, porcelain, dentin...
  • Polymers: PTFE, PP, Nafion...

Surface functionalization

  • Hydrophobic or super-hydrophobic (contact angle greater than 160°)
  • Hydrophilic or super-hydrophilic
  • SuperWicking (high-velocity capillarity and against gravity)
  • Self-cleaning surface, antifreeze

Staining of metals, iridescence

  • Gray, dark, and black coloration
  • Irisation by micro and nanotexture

Engraving / marking

  • Forgery-proof marking on all products, on the surface and in volume
  • Electrode ablation
  • Marking on and within materials (QR code, holograms, logo)

Improvement of the tribology of surfaces

  • Reduction of friction and wear up to 50%
  • Improvement of the endurance of a surface up to 30%
